Site visit 2016

Reading Wastewater Treatment plant

Reading Wastewater Treatment_Dig1_sm

The third day will involve a site visit to Reading Wastewater Treatment plant. This is a very modern site which is only 10 years old, treating a population equivalent of 250,000. The site processes about 25 tonnes of dry sludge per day using anaerobic digestion with CHP. Extensive THP and AD research is being undertaken at lab scale including bench scale dewatering, recovery & utilisation of Fat Oil & Grease. The site is home to the Thames Water Innovation Team which make ‘cool stuff happen’ and will host the visit.

ThamesWater_InnovationThe site will have a number of pilots tests operational when the visit is planned including novel sludge thickening control, mechanical digester optimisation, novel secondary treatment and an advanced oxidation process. A site tour will follow the entire process on site and will include a visit to the innovation pilot and laboratory facilities, presentations about the site and lunch will be provided.

Please be aware that full PPE is required to attend the site visit. Please indicate when booking if you need to borrow any of the following:

  • Steel toe capped boots
  • High Vis
