SludgeTech 2017 aims to bridge the gap between academia and industry bringing together leading experts to share knowledge and insight into the challenges and opportunities surrounding sewage sludge. This conference will showcase the latest research and innovation taking place across the world and inspire the next generation to seek a career in sludge.
The wastewater industry is entering a very exciting period in time where exploiting abundant resources is now becoming technically and economically feasible. Sewage sludge has traditionally been considered as a problematic waste and disposal problem. However, attitudes are definitely changing and sewage sludge is now regarded as an opportunity for significant value recovery. Due to the high energy and nutrient content, sewage sludge could provide significant revenues and carbon emission reduction. There is also considerable potential for recovery of other biorenewable materials and industrial chemicals from sludge.
To maximise the potential impact of new approaches, perspectives and technology on sewage sludge, much better industry/academic collaboration is required. In order to bridge the gap, good conferences that bring people together are essential. In response to this need and with help from a steering committee of experts, seed funding from the Royal Commission of the Exhibition of 1851 and support from CIWEM, in 2015 SludgeTech became a reality.
Our 2015 & 2016 events were a great success, fostering discussion between participants and building new relationships and business. SludgeTech 2017 intends to build on the great feedback received to further develop the programme in collaboration with the IWA.
Challenge: to maintain technical integrity, promote quality science and enable better understanding;
Collaboration: expand your network and collaborate to address the challenges facing our industry;
Fun: enjoy what we do, improve productivity and build positive relationships.
We look forward to seeing you at the conference.
